The FINANCIAL -- FORTUNE magazine has recognized Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE:MAR) as the most admired company in the industry of hotels, resorts and casinos, for the ninth consecutive year.
Marriott was the highest ranked company across all industries in the greater Washington, D.C. area, which includes the District of Columbia as well as suburban Maryland and Virginia.
The “Most Admired” list is made up of companies that are ranked by executives, directors, and analysts in their own industry on eight criteria, including: innovation, people management, use of corporate assets, social responsibility, quality of management, financial soundness, long-term investment, and products/services quality.
“Marriott’s vision is to be the number one lodging company in the world,” said J.W. Marriott, Jr., chairman and chief executive officer, Marriott International, Inc. “We are well positioned for continued success with our business model of managing and franchising hotels rather than owning them, our broad portfolio of 19 lodging brands, our distribution across nearly 70 countries, and above all our outstanding associates and culture.”
