The Ports of Auckland operations coordinator travelled to Birmingham to receive her £2,000 award from HRH Princess Anne. Open to CILT professionals under the age of 35, the prestigious award recognises top achievers in the transport and logistics sector.

Fresh back from the UK, Jesse-Lee now plans to put the funds toward her first overseas work experience posting to look at what other terminals are doing.

“I want to travel to international container terminals to learn how we can ensure ships and our yards are planned to maximise the efficiency of the terminal operation and land utilisation,” she says.

“I want to learn how other container terminals ensure their customers develop supply chain solutions that use their ports.”

Jesse-Lee has a BCom, majoring in Operations and Supply Chain Management and Employment Relations, and her interest in business process improvement and information technology prompted her to start studying operations management in her second year.

“The lecturer at the time, Dr Anson Li, was very engaging and it was really his influence and enthusiasm for this topic that encouraged me to pursue it.”

As The University of Auckland reported, after finishing her degree in 2008, Jesse-Lee joined Ports of Auckland as part of its graduate leadership development programme and her work as operations coordinator in the Container Terminal Operations team led to the CILT New Zealand Young Achiever Award in 2011.
