Western Union is the first financial services provider to work with Carrefour in Argentina, a company with a presence in 22 of the 24 provinces throughout the country – complementing Western Union’s in-country network. The Western Union money-transfer and bill payment service is now available at select Carrefour locations with rollout plans to be implemented across 120 strategic Carrefour locations.

“We are very pleased with this alliance with Western Union, which enables Carrefour to further expand the convenience we offer to our customers each and every day,” said Daniel Fernández, President of Carrefour Argentina. “Our customers are at the heart of everything that we do. Providing them with multiple payment options to solve their incoming and outgoing payments’ needs, while they are in our store, will definitively make their days easier.”

The Carrefour Group is one of the largest retailer in Europe, and the second largest worldwide, with more than 9,700 stores under banner in 30 countries. The Group combines different store formats – hypermarkets, supermarkets, convenience stores and cash and carry outlets – constantly adapting to its customers’ consumption patterns, and offering a large range of products and services. As the Western Union Company said, in Argentina, where it was launched in 1982, it is now one of the country's most recognized consumer brands.

“We’re combining our traditional strengths – a globally recognized brand and retail presence in 200 countries and territories – with web, stored value cards and accounts, mobile services and cross-border platforms for global businesses, to meet the needs of today’s customers, who require more options across different technologies,” said Odilon Almeida, president, Americas, Western Union.

“The Carrefour agreement is part of our business strategy to expand and diversify our network to provide fast, reliable and convenient financial services to customers in Argentina. We are pleased with the Carrefour relationship and look forward to expanding the service nationwide,” concluded Almeida.

Western Union is committed to the Argentine market, providing dependable financial services. Today, Western Union and Pago Facil services are offered in Argentina through a strategically combined network of approximately 8,000 locations that include banks, national retail chains, independent Agents’ locations and own stores.

Western Union, along with its branded payment services Orlandi Valuta and Vigo, connect consumers in Argentina to more than 510,000 Agent locations across 200 countries and territories.
