In addition to the heavy rains and flooding, many areas also experienced strong winds and even tornadoes.

As WebWire reported, many people experienced damage to their homes and businesses due to flooding and wind damage.  As people begin to cleanup water damaged properties it’s important that they recognize how quickly mold can begin to grow in these damaged properties.  In fact, mold can begin to grow in as short as 24 to 48 hours after some materials become wet.

One company that has been busy providing Floridians with help and advice about rebuilding their properties is Advanced Building Assessment. For over 20 years, Advanced Building Assessment has been providing area residents with roof and elevation certifications, wind mitigation and insurance inspections, environmental consulting services, and public insurance adjuster services.

Eric Osking, M.S., CIEC, President of Advanced Building Assessment, recently gave the following advice, “When cleaning up after a flood or water damage event, the indoor air quality in your home or office may appear to be the least of your problems. However, failure to remove contaminated materials and to reduce moisture and humidity can present serious long-term health risks. Standing water and wet materials are a breeding ground for microorganisms, such as viruses, bacteria and mold. They can cause disease, trigger allergic reactions and asthma attacks and continue to damage building materials long after the flood.”
