Italy reports EUR 1.5 bn trade surplus in October

The FINANCIAL -- Italy reported a surplus of 1.5 billion euros ($1.9 billion) in trade with countries outside the European Union in October on Thursday, a major improvement on the outcome in the same period last year.

As EUbusiness announced, in October 2011, official data showed a deficit of 657 million euros.

Exports went up by 0.7 percentage points in October from September and imports were up 1.1 percent.

On a 12-month comparison, exports were up 17.2 percent on a 12-month comparison and imports were up 2.3 percent.

The top foreign export markets for Italy were members of the OPEC oil cartel, Japan and Southeast Asian member nations of ASEAN.
