The FINANCIAL -- The Siemens Industry Solutions Division (IS) has won an order from DCC Doppelmayr Cable Car GmbH & Co to supply the electrical equipment for a cable liner shuttle of the metro in Caracas, Venezuela. The new rapid transit line will link two metro lines and is due to come into operation at the end of 2011.
The fully automated, cable-drawn cable liner has been jointly developed by Siemens and DCC Doppelmayr Cable Car GmbH & Co. Unlike a self-propelled system, in which the drive is located in the vehicle, the advantage of a cable-drawn system is that vehicles can be drawn back into a station by a stand-by drive if there is a power outage or system breakdown. Other benefits of the cable liner are that it is quiet and produces no emissions.
