The FINANCIAL -- Making the push to the Cloud may no longer be a yes or no decision for Latin American businesses - it will become a necessity.
Although it is notoriously challenging to calculate exact return of investment (ROI) from entering the cloud, new figures have come to light - and the results make resisting a move increasingly difficult.
CloudShare, the cloud computing company provider announced that its customers are experiencing immediate ROI - as much as 50 percent in some cases - by migrating their IT-intensive business functions to the Cloud, including presales demos, proofs of concept, training, and IT operations. Even in Latin America, where the infrastructure is still relatively underdeveloped, companies are seeing promising ROI, highlighting the importance for all CIOs to acknowledge the importance of the cloud, and its importance as a small piece in a larger business model.
Generally, technology takes three years to filter from North America down to Latin America, yet the cloud has migrated a lot quicker, due in part because the cloud enables smaller Latin American companies to become more competitive against larger businesses. "Globalization is an irreversible process in Latin America. As a result companies are looking at cloud computing as a flexible way to grow, to develop solutions and to become more efficient and effective," Rodolfo Garcia, president of Terremark Worldwide. Many of the industry's leading protagonists will meet at the CIO Latin America Summit (hosted by GDS International) next February in order to discuss how CIOs must find ways to integrate this cloud technology effectively. Those on hand will be prominent CIOs from top companies including Banco de Chile, Chrysler, Citibank Peru, GE Corporate, McDonald's Latin America, Televisa and Pepsi.
"Ensuring robust, rapid, and seamless deployment of strategic applications as SaaS - whether for sales demos, training, or IT operations - is critical to organizations with IT-intensive processes. They are extremely expensive and time-consuming, and until now, companies had no viable alternatives," said Zvi Guterman, CEO of CloudShare.
Cloud computing is one of the most relevant trends in IT today and, with growing expectation in Latin America. Organizations of all sizes and industries are evaluating various cloud computing scenarios that can improve their performance. Lower cost, increased productivity, better security and reliability are the major benefits that can be achieved with cloud computing solutions. Even as companies emerge from the depths of a global recession, within the cloud there are still proven ways for companies to derive significant cost savings and achieve rapid ROI.
