The FINANCIAL — Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Dimitry Kumsishvili held a meeting with the TeliaSonera Eurasia regional management representatives – President Erik Hallberg and Vice President Emil Nilsson. Geocell CEO, Pawel Smalinski and the Chairman of the Georgian National Communication Commission Vakhtang Abashidze also attended the meeting.
TeliaSonera’s activities in Georgia and its plans concerning the further operation on Georgian market were discussed during the meeting. TeliaSonera presented their decision to start decreasing of the amount of their operation in the Eurasian region (Kazakhstan, Georgia, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Nepal) with the final aim to quit it later on. This decision shall have no impact on the operation of the company, according to Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.
Ongoing activities, initiatives and projects of the Geocell continue functioning in the usual way. Over the years, Geocell has been operating under the TeliaSonera Group, implementing successful long-run activities and conducting responsible business practices in the country and the company will continue its work in the same direction. According to the TeliaSonera representatives, Geocell will continue operating in Georgia in future and moreover, it plans to carry out new projects.
TeliaSonera regional management expressed their approval of the current investment climate in Georgia and noted that Geocell plans to expand its activities in Georgia. In particular, the multi-million investment in hard currency shall be allocated in the development of the company’s infrastructure.
As the TeliaSonera and Geocel management stated, the company has the ambition that today, any investor shall find Geocell to be the company with a strong financial position, established aims and values, which will continue to be an important contributor to the economic development process of Georgia.
