ADB President Discusses Financial Crisis with Japan Envoys

The FINANCIAL -- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Haruhiko Kuroda on November 28 met special envoys of Japan's Prime Minister Taro Aso to discuss the impact of the global financial crisis on developing countries in Asia.

Mr. Kuroda and the envoys - Masakazu Toyoda, Special Advisor for Asian Economy and Development, and Yoshinori Katori, Japan’s ambassador for ASEAN - also exchanged views on how Japan and ADB can assist countries in the region ride out the negative impacts of the financial turmoil.


Mr. Kuroda said ADB is closely monitoring the impact of the global financial crisis on member countries and stands ready to help those who request it.


Offering support for developing countries where needed is vital for sustaining the region’s economic development, he added.


ADB, based in Manila, is dedicated to reducing poverty in the Asia and Pacific region through inclusive economic growth, environmentally sustainable growth, and regional integration. Established in 1966, it is owned by 67 members – 48 from the region.

NYSE Euronext swings to profit, beats expectations

The FINANCIAL -- NYSE Euronext (NYX) one of the leading global operators of financial markets and provider of innovative trading technologies, on February 9 reported net income of $172 million, or $0.66 per diluted share for the fourth quarter of 2009, compared to a net loss of  ($1,338) million, or ($5.06) per diluted share for the fourth quarter of 2008.
