The Silver Coin project was launched in 2010 in the Kyiv-based outlets of UkrSibbank. It was aimed at raising funds to set up Ukraine ’s first Center for Early Development of Children with Down syndrome. Today it is the only specialized center providing free services to more than 350 families from all over Ukraine . In 2011 UkrSibbank outlets were involved in raising funds in all Ukrainian regions. The money was used for the printing and distribution of special programs called “See and Learn,” aimed at developing children’s speech and teaching them how to read.
According to specialists from the Center for Early Development, the passive vocabulary of children doing the See and Learn program expands significantly, their attention becomes more focused and their thinking develops more quickly; they are better at orienting themselves within their environment, and more willing to interact and use speech to communicate.
