The FINANCIAL -- According to RIA Novosti, a lock of Elvis Presley's hair was sold for $15,000 at a Chicago auction, the Chicago Tribune reported.
The clump is believed to have been trimmed from Presley's head in 1958, when he joined the U.S. Army, the paper said, adding that a total of 200 Elvis-related items were put up for Sunday's auction.
The momento was reportedly bought by an anonymous telephone bidder. He paid $15,000 for the hair plus an additional $3,300 in auction house fees.
According to the paper, the collection, which had belonged to former Presley fan club president Gary Pepper until his death in 1980, included Elvis's stage clothes, records and Christmas cards.
A shirt that belonged to the King of Rock'n'Roll was sold for $52,000.
Last year, Elvis Presley, with his estate estimated at $52 million, topped the Forbes' annual list of the top-earning dead celebrities. He also topped the list in 2005.
