The FINANCIAL -- According to RIA Novosti, a two-hour documentary, a tribute to Michael Jackson's extraordinary life and career, has premiered simultaneously in 18 places in five continents.
The film features rare behind-the-scenes footage of Jackson's last rehearsals as he prepared for a comeback show in London before his unexpected death on June 25.
"This is more of a memorial than a movie. I think we could be looking at 70 to 100 million dollars in the first five days alone, which is extraordinary for this type of film," analyst Jeff Bock of box office tracking firm Exhibitor Relations told The Telegraph.
In Los Angeles, the premiere was held on October 27 amid fan protests against the King of Pop's life and death being commercialized.
Similar protests saying This Is Not It were launched on the Internet.
In Russia, the film will be premiered on October 29.
Michael Jackson died at the age of 50 at a Los Angeles hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest and going into a coma. A police investigation into Jackson's death has centered on his use of prescription drugs and on the doctors who treated him.
