The FINANCIAL -- British supermodel Naomi Campbell and Russian businessman Vladislav Doronin have canceled their wedding in Egypt's resort city of Luxor after their plans were leaked out to the press, local media said on December 9, according to RIA Novosti.
The ceremony was initially scheduled for December 7-8 at a Pharaoh temple in the southern city of Luxor. The couple later planned to spend their honeymoon at the legendary Old Winter Palace.
The palace was built in 1886 in British Colonial style. It has attracted famous travelers, historians and royal families. In 2007, French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife Carla Bruni spent their Christmas holidays in the hotel.
The details about the wedding of Campbell, 40, and Russian real estate tycoon Doronin, 48, appeared in the media in November. The reports said the event was to be attended by several hundreds of famous guests, including celebrities, designers and models.
The wedding has attracted thousands of tourists to the ancient Egyptian city. Many of them have visited the temple and took photographs of the wedding preparations.
Local health authorities warned hospitals in Luxor to be on high alert during the two days of the ceremony which was expected to become an important world event.
Earlier this week, Egyptian authorities denied rumors that the ceremony in the Luxor Temple had been approved as it would be an "insult" to the country's history and a historic archeological site should not become a venue for wedding celebrations.
The wedding has been reportedly rescheduled for February 2011, however the venue has not yet been announced.
