The FINANCIAL -- The United Nations Development Programme and the United Nations Global Compact Initiative have invited partner organizations in Georgia to the first National Conference on Corporate Social Responsibility, Friday, July 10, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Marriott Courtyard Hotel in Tbilisi .
“As Georgian companies are maturing and turning to external markets,
and as Georgia itself is embarking on the task of the harmonization
with the standards and practices in the EU, the internal practices of
companies, their impact on society, and the collaboration of all
stakeholders in ensuring the sustainable development of the country and
its business sector becomes ever more important. This is already
recognized by companies and organizations affiliated to the UN Global
Compact, and by companies participating in CSR activities on their own
and within the context of their business associations. The importance
of this view was reinforced earlier this year, when 12 organizations in
Georgia decided to collaborate in promoting the concept and practice of
corporate social responsibility. The present Conference is largely the
product of this collaboration.
“At the conference, we would like to highlight the business reasons for
introduction of corporate responsibility practices as presented by
leading domestic and international companies, review the present
situation in the country and abroad in the present economic landscape,
highlight some of the best practices and identify the gaps, and jointly
discuss the priorities for action”, organizers declare.
The conference is dedicated to a wide audience: to the members of
senior management and supervisory bodies in companies, who are
responsible for strategy and overall direction of businesses;
department heads in charge of implementation of company policies, e.g.
on quality, human resources, marketing, and external relations; to
representatives of business associations; consulting companies; and
non-business participants, such as representatives of the civil society
and government bodies.
Companies are asked to register to the conference by sending an e-mail message to nino.kizikurashvili (at) undp.org.
Outline of the parallel sessions:
The parallel sessions on specific areas of CSR are designed with
several objectives in mind. Firstly, they will present an opportunity
for the participants to discuss the current state of the CSR practice
in the country, identifying the best practice, and areas which need
more attention in the future. The participants will also have an
opportunity to define the priorities in these respective areas, and
indicate which kinds of partnerships, and what kind of support is
needed in order to resolve the priority issues of their interest.
The sessions will be facilitated, and their results reported in the
plenary session. Combined, these results will constitute the Georgian
national CSR agenda for the next year, and will be communicated as such
by the twelve organizations supporting CSR, primarily with the
government. This agenda will also help the said organizations define
their CSR-related programming, i.e. it will help determine which
activities are supported in the next year.
The potential areas for discussion at the parallel sessions are:
Workplace:
Ensuring the sufficient supply of qualified personnel; human resource
management practices, techniques, status of the HR profession,
development needs of the HR professionals; ethical practices in hiring,
professional development, and promotion; responsible restructuring;
human rights and labor standards.
Community:
Aligning philanthropic activities with strategic goals of companies;
identifying the right community partners; making philanthropic
activities more effective; cause-related marketing and branding;
regulation of donations.

adaptation to climate change; environmental regulation and services.
