National Bank of Georgia hosts the Caucasian Expert Panel on Central Banks Statistics

The FINANCIAL -- National Bank of Georgia is one of the 60 countries which are involved in all statistical data dissemination initiatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

This guarantees the availability of timely, comprehensive and reliable statistical data for all users.The National Bank of Georgia hosts the 2nd Caucasian Expert Panel on Central Banks Statistics on 11-12 June. Along with the Georgian experts the specialists from Lithuania, Armenia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan are participating in the panel.


The Conference will be held at Courtyard Marriott Hotel and the main topic of discussion will be advances in external statistics. The current goals of external statistics are heading towards the implementation of IMF’s Balance of Payments and International Investment Position Manual. According to The National Bank of Georgia , it should be mentioned, that in 2013 Georgia intends to compile BOP and IIP statistics under both BPM5 and BPM6 formats. From 2014 BPM6 format will be fully adopted. The relating BPM6 topics will be the subject of consideration during the panel as well.

 

In 2011 the ROSC mission evaluated the system of Georgian statistics. The previous ROSC mission was in 2002. From now on Georgian statistical system experienced significant improvement. Improvement in Georgian statistics was highlighted in ROSC mission report. Improvements are visible in all directions, but most of all in external sector statistics.

 

For statistics development priority is given to development of automatize system for collection, processing and dissemination the monetary and financial data. By the first quarter of 2013 monetary survey will be calculated automatically using statistical software SEBSTAT. During the panel intensively will be discussed the topics concerning IT support for compiling, analyzing and disseminating the statistical data.

Compilation of statistics is among important activities for central banks. After financial crisis interest for statistics increased significantly. In terms of quality improvement of statistical activities in the National Bank of Georgia , the recent years were significantly fruitful. The National Bank of Georgia is one of the 60 countries, which are involved in all statistical data dissemination initiatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Particularly, during 2010-2012 NBG joined the international projects of International Reserves and Financial Soundness Indicators. This guarantees the availability of timely, comprehensive and reliable statistical data for all users.
