In a recent campaign towards reduction in usage of plastic bags in the Mundra region, CGPL conducted an educational session for its employees, including workmen, families and villagers, to create awareness on the harmful impact of plastic bags on the environment.

In CGPL’s Ashiyana township, currently accommodating around 165 members and contractual workers, a no-plastic campaign has been initiated. An appeal has been made to the families of employees, including workmen, by the CGPL administration team to stop using plastic carry bags and opt for eco-friendly and biodegradable bags. Speaking on the campaign, KK Sharma, chief, Mundra Project, said, “We are delighted with the success of this initiative. The response received has been very positive. We would like to thank the township's members for all their support and co-operation. We will continue organising such initiatives for conservation of the environment.”

Taking a lead in this direction, effective from July 1, 2012, the township's shops and cafeterias have been persuaded not to offer plastic carry bags to customers. As an alternative, provision of reusable bags has been made on chargeable basis at the shop. To ensure successful implementation, CGPL has undertaken massive awareness programmes at the township. As Tata reported, it includes displaying posters at prominent locations, imparting lectures to the residents, staff and workers, and conducting workshops on making paper bags, which was attended by staff and workers. The response received by this campaign is spectacular and the support of the township's residents has been commendable.
