Ford Transit backs Sir Ranulph Fiennes’ Latest Challenge to cross Antarctica in Winter

22/09/2012 03:25 (238 Day 00:12 minutes ago)

The FINANCIAL -- Ford is behind Sir Ranulph Fiennes’ latest record breaking challenge - "The Coldest Journey", a six-month expedition across Antarctica during the southern winter.

Ford provided a Transit minibus in February this year to transport the team 1,800 miles to Arjeplog in northern Sweden to take part in an extreme-weather training exercise where the team was finalised and much of the kit for the expedition was tested.

The team will be dropped by ship on the Pacific coast of Antarctica and will set off across the ice-shelf on March 21 2013, crossing terrain where the temperatures can sink to -90 degrees C.

Sir Ranulph Fiennes thanked Ford for the loan of the vehicle and said: “As you would expect from Ford, the Transit van operated without hitch in some tough conditions and ensured we were able to get to and from Arjeplog for our training. Their help is greatly appreciated.”

The 16-seat, 2.4-litre 140PS Ford Transit, like the expedition leader himself, is reliable, durable, and an amazing success story. As Ford Motor Company reported, the Ford Transit has been engineered to provide years of reliable service, no matter how harsh the operating conditions.
