Porsche and long-distance racing – a glimpse into a fascinating world

26/10/2013 17:28 (175 Day 14:42 minutes ago)

The FINANCIAL -- A unique and successful history links Porsche with Le Mans. 2014 will see Porsche making a return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans race with two LMP1 prototypes - 16 years after its overall victory in 1998 with the Porsche GT1.

For Porsche, the coming year will mark the start of a long-term commitment to the World Endurance Championship (WEC). Beside the 24h endurance championship Porsche also participates in seven 6h races, according to Porsche Cars North America, Inc.

The new set of rules that apply to the WEC for 2014 require the works teams to use the latest hybrid drive technology. This is because the aim of the new rules for the upcoming season is to significantly reduce fuel consumption among the racing cars taking part. The new Porsche LMP1 therefore needs to boast optimum efficiency while delivering maximum performance. With this in mind, the race engineers are actually facing the same challenge as their colleagues who work on development of series production vehicles. The racing car and the series production vehicles are both being developed at the Porsche Development Centre in Weissach, meaning the engineers can regularly compare notes, according to Porsche Cars North America, Inc.

The extensive press kit entitled "Meet the heroes of Le Mans" links Porsche's successful history in the world's most challenging long-distance races with all aspects of the technology transfer, provides all the facts surrounding the Le Mans racetrack (which has seen over 100 Porsche victories in a variety of racing classes), and describes all the successful Porsche racing cars that compete in the Le Mans race.

The Porsche press database, under the "Meet the heroes of Le Mans" heading, provides also over 90 up-to-date images of the various drivers – from Hans Herrmann (1970 winner at Le Mans ) to the current LMP1 driver, Timo Bernhard – and shots of legendary racing cars such as the Porsche 917, the 935 "Moby Dick" or the 936 Spyder. Extensive TV footage on all these topics, including interviews in German and English, are also available to download.

Major Cloud Service Providers Slash Prices; Threaten Smaller Players’ Existence: IDC Warns

19/04/2014 13:40 (18:30 minutes ago)

The FINANCIAL -- In the last week of March, major Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) in Asia dropped their prices for core services dramatically and IDC believes that this will make it very difficult for smaller CSPs to remain in business if they continue to rely on provision of basic, undifferentiated services, according to International Data Corporation (IDC).
