Whitbread, which owns the Premier Inn hotel brand, has invested £1m in the academies, which offer specialist training and development for restaurant and kitchen managers.

According to Caterer and Hotelkeeper, in a sector where many people are recruited with few or no qualifications, the company said the skills academies would provide comprehensive courses ranging from food product information, food preparation and cooking through to meal presentation and customer service.

The three sites are at: Hockley Heath, Manchester and Swindon.
