Blast rocks Kabul ahead of Afghanistan talks, 2 killed

The FINANCIAL -- KABUL. Two people were killed and five others were injured on July 20 when a bomb went off in the Afgnah capital, Kabul, just ahead of the International Conference on Afghanistan, witnesses said, according to RIA Novosti.

The blast reportedly occurred in Kabul's Khair Khana area at about 6:10am MOSCOW time (2:10am GMT) despite enhanced security measures.

 

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon arrived in the Afghan capital earlier on July 20 to take part in the conference.

 

The talks, which bring together foreign ministers and other top representatives of more than 70 countries and international organizations, will take place later on July 20.

 

The Afghan Interior Ministry confirmed the reports on the blast, which, according to the ministry, injured several people. The ministry has called on Kabul residents to stay home on July 20.

 

Local journalists said two short-range rockets had landed early on July 20 at Kabul International Airport . According to the reports, several people were injured as a result.

 

Local media said four blasts had occurred in the early hours of July 20in eastern Kabul, but police have declined to comment on the reports.

The FINANCIAL -- China's imports of Iranian crude oil recovered from February and March levels but still fell from a year earlier in April, after China International United Petroleum & Chemical Co., known as Unipec, resolved a commercial dispute with National Iranian Oil Co. in mid-February.
