A press conference has been held on the occasion of the Year of Georgia and Germany

The FINANCIAL -- “By marking the Year of Georgia and Germany we want to further explore the diversity of cultural, political and economic relations between the two countries in order to raise awareness of our common history among the Georgian and German people” - German Ambassador to Georgia Heike Renate Peitsch is quoted as saying during the press conference held on 19 April to mark the Year of Georgia and Germany.

The ceremonial opening of the German-Georgian year will be conducted on 21 April in Tbilisi and on 26 April – in Berlin. Within the framework of the year, a series of cultural, economic, educational and sports activities will be carried out through the financial support and under the auspices of the Georgian and German foreign ministries, the Goethe Institute and the Georgian Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection, according to MFA of Georgia.

According to Georgian Foreign Minister Khatuna Totladze “These activities will further contribute to the strengthening of the already close relations between the two countries”.

Director of the Goethe Institute Stefan Wackwitz and Director of the Culture promotion and rregional programmes department of the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection Ana Rjaboshenko also spoke about the planned activities within the framework of the German-Georgian Year.

Under the auspices of the Foreign Ministries of the two countries, Geormany and Georgia will celebrate the landmarks in their history: arrival of first German emmigrants to Georgia 200 years ago and the 25th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Georgia and Germany. 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of Germany’s recognition of independence of the first republic of Georgia.

The Year of Georgia and Germany highlights the intensive relations between the tw countries and in particular between its communities.
