Since 2016, the Georgian Chant Foundation has been awarding an annual one-time scholarship named after Edisher and Giorgi (Gigi) Garakanidze with an amount of 1000 GEL for outstanding students of Tbilisi State Conservatory, Tbilisi State University and Giorgi Mtatsmindeli Ecclesiastical High School.
Despite the Covid pandemic, the tradition of awarding scholarships was not broken this year either. The founders of the Georgian Chant Foundation handed certificates and scholarships to the winners of 2021.
The Georgian Chanting Foundation was initiated by Ivane Chkhartishvili, with the blessings and prayers of Ilia II, the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, in 2012.
The aim of the foundation is to support Georgian chants-song and other fields of traditional art, to promote their development-popularization and scientific research, to give incentives for more youth involvement in this field.
