The FINANCIAL — President Trump’s approval rating holds steady at 40%, and Attorney General Jeff Sessions continues to narrowly lead (17%) as the next executive branch staff member to be fired or resigned in the Ipsos Wh’Exit poll.
In this week’s Reuters\Ipsos Core Political release, less than one third of Americans (29%) or American registered voters (30%) believe America is headed in the right direction. Additionally, President Trump’s approval rating has remained flat for the last several weeks, hovering near 40% among all Americans. Unsurprisingly, Republicans continue to be much more likely to approve of his job performance (81%) than Democrats (11%) or Independents (33%).
On the generic congressional ballot, Democrats continue to lead among all Americans (38% to 31%) and registered voters (42% to 35%) if the November midterm election for Congress were held today. Half of registered voters (50%) approve of the job their congressperson is doing as their representative, but just 20% of registered voters approve of Congress’ performance as a whole. Republicans are much more likely to approve of both their individual representative (60%) and Congress as a whole (34%) than Democrats (45% and 12%, respectively).
Healthcare (15%) continues to top the list of most important problems facing America today. Terrorism (13%) and the economy (12%) round out the top three issues. Democrats continue to see healthcare (21%) as the biggest problem by far, with the economy and terrorism both tied for second at 12%. Republicans view terrorism (17%) as the biggest problem, while the economy (14%) and immigration (14%) are close seconds. Independents’ views are in line with most Americans with 15% viewing healthcare as the most important problem.
With significant turnover in recent weeks in the White House, Americans report that top members of the administration had nearly even odds of being fired or resigning from the White House this week. Attorney General Jeff Sessions continues to narrowly lead (17%) over Chief of Staff John F. Kelly (15%), Senior Adviser Jared Kushner (15%), and Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos (14%) as the next executive branch staff member to be fired or resigned in the Ipsos Wh’Exit poll.
