The FINANCIAL — MEPs vote this week on the €315 billion investment plan to boost the EU economy and new rules to ensure safety equipment works as advertised. A new working group on robotics meets for the first time, while MEPs also vote on a proposal to urge the Swiss Government to respect its agreements on migration with the EU. In addition the Parliament’s political groups will be preparing for next week’s plenary session.
The budget and economic affairs committees vote April 20 on the European Strategic Investment Fund to boost the EU economy. The details of the financing of the €315 billion plan remain to be negotiated with the national governments and the European Commission. All MEPs will vote on it during a plenary session in June, according to EU.
The development committees votes Monday on how EU development aid should be financed ahead of an international conference on development finance in Addis Ababa in July and also on the new Global Development goals to be agreed upon at the UN summit in New York in September 2015.
Also on Monday the internal market committee votes on a draft report, calling on the Swiss government to respect its obligations to the Free Movement of Persons Agreement following the country’s 2014 referendum on limiting immigration to Switzerland.
The security and defence subcommittee discusses on Monday the EU’s training mission in Somalia with Brigadier-General Antonio Maggi, who is the mission’s commander, and Gábor Iklódy, the director of the European External Action Service’s crisis management and planning directorate.
The internal market committee votes Thursday on a directive setting up new rules concerning personal protection equipment such as life jackets, bicycle helmets and oven gloves.
The legal affairs committee’s working group on robotics has its first meeting on Thursday. Robotic are becoming a part of everyday life so there is an increasing need for an adequate legal framework. The working group being set up is to pave the way for civil law rules on robotics and artificial intelligence.
