The FINANCIAL — Rescuers evacuated 340 people from the Split entertainment club in Poltava in the early hours of February 6 because of a false bomb claim.
The public relations division of the Poltava Regional Police Department announced this in a statement.
In particular, 300 guests and 40 service personnel were evacuated from the club.
At about 23:00 on February 5 an unidentified person contacted the police via the telephone number 102 to claim that a bomb had been planted at the Split nightclub, which is located at 22 Hoholia Street, in Poltava and is one of the popular nightclubs in the city.
Police cordoned off the Split nightclub while explosive experts, dog handlers, and traffic police officers searched for the bomb.
Poltava regional police chief Oleksandr Rudiak and the Poltava regional prosecutor Anatolii Melnyk personally directed the operations of the law enforcement officials.
However, no explosives or other suspicious materials were found at the nightclub.
Efforts to identify the person who made the false claim are underway.
The issue of filing a criminal case under Section 1 of Article 296 of the Penal Code (hooliganism), which provides for imprisonment for up to 5 years, is being considered.
In addition, the person that made the false claim will have to reimburse the law enforcement agencies for the losses incurred during the operation.
The investigation is continuing.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Interior Affairs Ministry has expressed concern over frequent false bomb claims.
