The FINANCIAL — Bundled services (triple-play, quad-play) were used by 45% of surveyed households in Hungary in March 2011, 9 p.p. more than in late 2009, and 3 p.p. above the EU average, according to a survey conducted by European Commission among EU members.
Out of 1,029 Hungarian households interviewed in March 2011, 95% of the respondents had access to telephony services (fixed or mobile), and 40% were subscribers of both. These penetration rates remained lower than the EU average, which amounted to 98% and 62%, respectively.
In terms of internet access, Hungary remains below the EU average. Only half of the Hungarian households had internet access, and 48% had a broadband connection, while for the EU these rates were 62% and 55%, respectively. Total internet access grew by 6% since late 2009 in Hungary, and although the growth pace was higher than the average in the EU, it was slower than in other countries in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), such as Romania (which posted a 13% growth over the reviewed period), Bulgaria (9%), or Poland (7%).
