The FINANCIAL — The percentage of households connected to the internet in the Czech Republic increased by 7 p.p. year on year in 2010, to 56%, according to the Czech Statistical Office (CSU). The figure is still below the EU average of 70%.
Meanwhile, the percentage of households with a broadband connection amounted to 51% last year, compared to 44% in 2009. The proportion of households using high-speed broadband connections compared to dial-up connections has shifted significantly in the past five years or so. At present, about nine out of 10 households with internet have a high-speed connection.
Furthermore, the most frequently used broadband connection technology in the country last year was Wi-Fi. In Q2 2010, nearly one million households were using Wi-Fi to connect to the internet in the Czech Republic.
The number of Czech households with PCs has also been rising steadily, reaching nearly 2.5 million in 2010, or 59% of all households. The figure was 54% in 2009. Almost one fifth of households had more than one PC in 2010, while approximately one fourth had a laptop.
