The FINANCIAL — Birmingham Airport is set to see its busiest ever Christmas as over half a million passengers are expected to travel through the terminal over the festive period – a 21.2% increase compared to last year.
In total 505,451 people will travel through the airport between Friday 16th December and Tuesday 3rd January, according to Birmingham Airport.
The busiest day overall is expected to be Monday 2nd January when 30,077 passengers will be welcomed through the Midlands gateway, up 30.6% year-on-year as people return home after holidays or visiting loved ones.
On Christmas Day, the expected amount of total passengers is 13,590, up 82.2% year-on-year. Of this total, 7,619 will be departing passengers, up 67% on the same day last year.
The top three destinations on Christmas Day will be Dubai, Tenerife and Malaga. Also, people will be jetting off to places such as Madrid, Bucharest, Lanzarote, India, Dublin, Montego Bay, Cancun, Edinburgh, Islamabad, Amsterdam and Paris.
