The FINANCIAL — The spring season has arrived in Budapest and the city’s cultural scene has warmed up to show its full potential.
Book the Bed and Breakfast package at Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace, one of the finest Art Nouveau landmarks in Europe, and access the best tips for places to see and visit from the Concierge team to ensure a stay that is both memorable and rewarding.
Ferenc Liszt, one of the greatest pianists of all time, celebrates his 200th birthday this year and his home city of Budapest honours the artist with concerts and activities throughout 2011. Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace can arrange a private guided tour of the Lizst museum, or a private music lesson with a Lizst Academy musician.
The beautiful, historic Opera House located on Andrassy Street offers its visitors an impressive repertoire of works by Bellini, Verdi, Mozart, Erkel, Donizetti and many others. Four Seasons Concierge team can make the Opera visit even more special with a back-of-house-tour and a short private performance by the opera singers.
Budapest is often referred to as the “city of spas.” For those who love spas and wellness, it is unique for being the only large city in the world that abounds in fountains of healing waters. Seventy million litres (15 million gallons) of 21-78 degree Celsius (70-172 F) thermal waters spring forth daily from its 118 natural thermal springs. The Hotel's Concierge recommends experiencing outdoor Gellert and Széchenyi, or the indoor medieval Rudas baths.
The Hotel has created a private Jewish city tour for those interested in Jewish heritage. The tour includes the visit to the Great Synagogue, the second largest in the world and the largest in Europe. The Tree of Life, a sculpture in the Synagogue's courtyard, has metallic leaves that carry the names of Holocaust victims. The tour also takes guests to the Shoes on the Danube River Promenade created by Gyula Pauer and Can Togay. It honours those who were executed on the banks of the Danube – the shoes a sober reminder of times not so long ago.
Budapest is known for its strong café culture. Kavehaz is the Hungarian expression for coffee house and it's the perfect venue to enjoy a great espresso and traditional Hungarians pastries. Andrea Colla, assistant director of food and beverage at the Hotel, comments: "The Gresham Restaurant presents a seasonal lunch and dinner menu, and offers a selection of mouth-watering traditional Hungarian cakes such as Esterhazy, Dobos or Rigo Jancsi, as well as international favourites including eclairs and mille feuille. With so many wonderful choices to decide from, we have created a Sweet Bites menu available in the afternoon hours, which allows our guests to sample three individual cakes and coffee – the menu is perfect for those who cannot decide what to choose."
