The FINANCIAL — An EU-funded project ‘Advocating for Pedestrian Safety through Multi-stakeholder Dialogue and Road Safety Research’ in Georgia has held a conference in Tbilisi, presenting its findings from pedestrian and driver research.
The conference aimed to gather a range of stakeholders in order to achieve a comprehensive approach to the issue of road safety. The event was attended by government representatives and senior officials, media, civil society and private sector representatives, according to EU Neighbourhood Info.
More than 500 people are killed a year and about 8,000 injured in car crashes in Georgia, more than are killed by cancer.
The research process was supported by the EU-funded project ‘Civil Society. Dialogue for Progress’.
Both the Georgian Interior Minister and the Vice-Mayor of Tbilisi expressed their willingness to cooperate further with civil society in its significant efforts to reduce the number of casualties caused by car accidents and help NGOs to raise awareness among drivers and pedestrians.
