The FINANCIAL — According to RIA Novosti, an aftershock measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale rattled Russia's North Caucasus Republic of Chechnya overnight, but no injuries were reported, local emergencies said on October 20.
The aftershock came just over a week after 5.5-magnitude quake hit the North Caucasus on October 11. The quake's epicenter was in Chechnya, and at least 13 people were killed and over 100 more injured in the republic. Some 10,000 buildings were also damaged.
The tremor was also felt in five other Russian North Caucasus republics, as well as the neighboring South Caucasus state of Georgia.
Some 288 aftershocks have been registered in Russia's South Federal District since last week, with 16 of them measuring over 3 on the Richter scale.
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin visited Chechnya last week to inspect reconstruction efforts following the earthquake.
