Passenger business
June 2008 traffic rose 2.6% with capacity up 4.1%. The comparison with June 2007, which was boosted by two major events (Paris air show and Vinexpo), was unfavourable. Moreover, activity levels were affected by the air traffic control strike at Paris Orly airport. The load factor amounted to 81.5%
(-1.2 points). The group saw a further rise in yield excluding currency impact, underpinned by premium traffic which remained robust. The group carried 6.8 million passengers (+1.3%).
On the Americas network, traffic rose 2.3% with capacity up 4.8%. The load factor stood at the high level of 86.5% (-2.1 points).
The Asia network saw traffic rise by 2.1% with capacity up 7.1%. The load factor fell 4.1 points reflecting a temporary dip in volumes to China following the earthquake in May, but remained at the high level of 83.3%.
On the Africa and Middle East network, traffic was up 5.8% with capacity up by 3.8%, leading to a 1.5 point improvement in load factor to 79.9%.
The Caribbean and Indian Ocean network recorded a 1.9% rise in traffic and a 1.1% increase in capacity. The load factor rose 0.6 points to 76.8%.
Traffic on the European network was up 1.9% and capacity by 1.8%. The load factor remained stable at 75.2% (+0.1 point).
Cargo business
In June 2008, traffic declined by 1.5% with a 1.8% rise in capacity. The load factor fell 2.2 points to 65.4%.
Recent development
Air France-KLM has adjusted its capacity growth forecasts and now foresees a rise of some 2% for the Winter 2008 programme and of a similar level for the Summer 2009 programme.
