Passenger business
May 2008 saw a good level of activity with a 6% rise in traffic, in line with the 5.8% increase in capacity. The load factor improved slightly to 79.3% (+0.2 points). The first half of the month included a number of public holidays in France, which stimulated leisure traffic at the expense of business, but it was the latter which underpinned activity during the second half of the month. There was a further improvement in unit revenue excluding currency impact. The group carried 6.6 million passengers (+3.8%).
– On the Americas network traffic rose 6.5% with capacity up by 8.3%. The load factor stood at 84.1% (-1.4 points).
– The Asia network remained dynamic, recording a 6.6% rise in traffic with capacity up 8.1%. The load factor stood at 81.6% (-1.2 points).
– On the Africa and Middle East network traffic rose 5.4% with capacity up by just 1.1%, leading to a 3 point rise in the load factor to 74.5%.
– The Caribbean and Indian Ocean network saw a sharp rise in both traffic (+9%) and capacity (+9.1%). The load factor remained stable at 80.4% (-0.1 point).
– On the European network traffic rose 3.9% with capacity up by just 1.6%, leading to a 1.6 point improvement in the load factor to 72.4%.
Cargo business
In May 2008, traffic rose by 2.7% with capacity up 5.1%. The load factor declined by 1.5 points to 64.8%. The group carried 122,906 tons, up 0.7%.
