The FINANCIAL — Readers of the US specialist travel magazines, Global Traveler and Premier Traveler, have cast their votes and awarded airberlin two first places: airberlin has been named “Best Transatlantic Airline” and “Best European Airline”.
Germany’s second largest airline has been able to improve its ranking within the last year. Premier Traveler readers deemed the topbonus frequent flyer programme to be the “Best International Frequent Flyer Program”, topbonus received the award for the second consecutive year.
Overall, airberlin will operate 15 additional weekly flights from next summer, taking the total number of flights from Dusseldorf and Berlin to eight destinations in the US each week to 58. All long-haul aircraft are fitted with the new XL seats, according to airberlin.
The first airberlin flights from Dusseldorf to Dallas Fort Worth and Boston will depart on 6 and 7 May 2016 respectively, using an A330-200. Also new from 6 May, the schedule will include the Dusseldorf – San Francisco route with three weekly flights initially, increasing to five services a week from June. As this summer, airberlin will also continue to operate daily flights between Dusseldorf and Miami, and remains the only airline to offer three nonstop weekly services from Germany, between Dusseldorf and Fort Myers. The daily services between Berlin-Tegel, New York and Chicago remain unchanged.
