The FINANCIAL — During the Board of Directors Meeting held on June 8, 2009 Mr. Zafer Kurtul was appointed to Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Vice Chairman Mr. Akın Kozanoğlu.
With the promotion of Mr. Zafer Kurtul, Mr. Ziya Akkurt, the Deputy CEO in charge of Corporate and Commercial Banking was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Akbank.
Born in 1961 in Diyarbakır, Mr. Akkurt graduated from the Department of Business Administration at Middle East Technical University in 1983. Beginning his career in 1983 as a Management Trainee at Interbank, Mr. Akkurt held various positions in Credits and Marketing and International Marketing until 1989. Between 1989 and 1991, Mr. Akkurt served as the Vice President in charge of Marketing at BNP-AK-Dresdner Bank and between 1991 and 1996 he was in charge of Financial Institutions Marketing and Country Loans at Ottoman Bank and Banqué Paribas in Paris.
In 1996, Mr. Akkurt joined Akbank as the Vice President in charge of Corporate Banking and in 1997 was appointed as Executive Vice President. Launched in 2001, Mr. Akkurt was an active member of the Bank’s Restructuring Program and was in charge of Commercial and Corporate Banking Units. Appointed as the General Manager of AKInvestment, in April 2009, Mr. Akkurt moved on to become the Deputy CEO in charge of Corporate and Commercial Banking at Akbank.
Between 1996 and 2008, Mr. Akkurt served as the Board Member in charge of credits at BNP-AK-Dresdner Bank and BNP-AK-Dresdner Leasing and between 2006 and 2008 he served as a Member of the Board of Directors of Akbank A.G./ Germany.
