Civil.Ge — Irakli Alasania, the leader of Our Georgia-Free Democrats (OGFD) opposition party, met with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Philip H. Gordon, on sideline of Brussels Forum on March 27.
Alasania said that he had discussed with the U.S. senior diplomat issues related with electoral reform in Georgia.
“The U.S. expects talks between the opposition and the ruling party [on electoral system reform] will be accomplished with concrete results,” Alasania said. “In case the process does not result in an agreement between two sides, naturally elections can not be regarded as democratic and legitimate either within the country or internationally.”
According to Alasania’s press office in Brussels OGFD leader had an opportunity to discuss the same issue with EU’s foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton and German deputy foreign minister Werner Hoyer, as well as with U.S. senators Jeanne Shaheen and Mark Warner.
