The FINANCIAL — Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) celebrated the company’s International Days of Caring (IDOC) in Taiwan by engaging in several volunteer activities, including donating blood and taking steps to help the environment.
Sponsored by the Alcatel-Lucent Foundation, IDOC is an employee volunteer initiative that takes place around the world to address key community needs and issues. Under the theme of “I Love Red & Green,” around 80 Alcatel-Lucent employees from around the island volunteered to donate blood and take green actions.
"Addressing the seasonal shortage of blood in summer, Alcatel-Lucent worked with the Taipei Blood Service Foundation to arrange a blood-donation activity on June 19. About 80 bags of blood were raised on that day. In addition to encouraging employees to donate blood, Alcatel-Lucent opened the center so that people in the neighbourhood could donate blood as well," Alcatel-Lucent says.
Company employees also pledged to take green actions to save energy and reduce Co2 emissions, such as taking the stairs instead of using the elevator on the International Day of Caring, turning off office lights during lunch breaks, using environment-friendly dinnerware, taking public transportation vehicles and sorting garbage to encourage recycling. For this year, the company especially arranged to introduce film director Luc Besson’s “Home” movie on June 20, in a bid to raise public awareness for making better “Earth Care.”
“Since it began local operations 35 years ago, Alcatel-Lucent has always been a strong supporter of social and environment activities in Taiwan as well as dedicated to promoting energy efficiency of its products,” said Larry Chai, President of Alcatel-Lucent’s activities in Taiwan. “Advancing communications technology is not the only contribution we can make to society. What’s more important is our sincere care and devotion toward the people and the environment we all live and work in.”
Alcatel-Lucent is a major partner of the Taiwanese telecoms industry having supplied a full range of advanced fixed and mobile solutions and technologies including xDSL, optical networks, IPTV, Metro Ethernet, WiMAX and Femto, to service providers, utility and transportation companies, government, MSOs and enterprises.
