The FINANCIAL — On December 13, Ambassador Ian Kelly joined Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, Minister of Foreign Affairs Giorgi Kvirikashvili, and other dignitaries to see the first railcars from China pass through Georgia, hailed as the revitalization of the Silk Road route linking the Asia and Europe, according to Embassy of the United States of Georgia.
Speaking to press, Ambassador Kelly said, “I think it goes far toward providing a link between Europe and China with Georgia as a very important part of this whole chain. The United States is very supportive of this.” He continued, “The economy is global. There are companies like DHL, FedEx, that are looking for a new, faster route to the West from China and this will contribute a lot to Georgia’s development as well.”
