The FINANCIAL — On June 19 in Batumi, Ambassador Norland met with Defense Threat Reduction Office (DTRO) employees from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan, according to U.S. Department of State Georgia.
The DTRO staff were taking part in a training event organized by the Tbilisi-based Defense Threat Reduction Agency Eurasia.
During the meeting, Ambassador Norland and DTRO staff discussed regional and Georgia-specific projects, including some they are carrying out in Batumi and Poti with the Georgian Coast Guard. One of them—the Batumi Boat Basin—is expected to be completed this fall and will give the Georgian Coast Guard increased capacity to interdict and respond to sea activity that is related to weapons of mass destruction and other significant regional threats.
