The FINANCIAL — The American Chamber of Commerce notices monopolisation of the Ukrainian grain market, reads a statement made by the Chamber.
"Was noticed a problem of absence of competition as a result of the trend to the market monopolisation, which in the end has negative impact on the country's economy," it said following a meeting of the director for the affairs of Russia and Eurasia Betsy Hefner with the biggest exporters of grain – members of the Chamber of Commerce.
Participants in the meeting stressed, at the moment the agricultural market of Ukraine was vulnerable to the excessive meddling of the state, influencing negatively on the filling-up of the budget.
In the Chamber's opinion, this situation leads to a decline in investments in the sector in connection of recent more frequent cases of ousting the existing investors from the grain market.
Apart from this, the Chamber is concerned over the distribution of quotas on grain exports and their influence on the filling-up of the national budget; in this regard on January 10 they sent an official letter addressed to Prime Minister Mykola Azarov of Ukraine.
On top of this, the Chamber recalls that VAT is not returned to grain traders, despite the government's promises to liquidate it.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the American Chamber of Commerce in August 2010 expressed concern over the Cabinet of Ministers' intention to assign quotas on grain exports.
Ukraine undertook before the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to pursue predictable policy in the grain sector.
