The FINANCIAL — Anadarko Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:APC) on January 12 announced a successful drillstem test (DST) at the Hyedua-2 appraisal well in the deepwater Jubilee field offshore Ghana.
The well, located in approximately 4,090 feet of water on the Deepwater Tano License, flowed at a stable rate of 16,750 barrels of 37-degree API gravity crude oil and approximately 21 million cubic feet per day of associated natural gas from a single zone. The flow rate, which was limited by equipment and facilities, indicates future deliverability of more than 20,000 barrels per day.
"Flowing nearly 17,000 barrels of high-quality crude oil per day from a test well is an outstanding success indicative of the world-class potential of this basin," Anadarko Chairman and CEO Jim Hackett said. "The high flow rates and relatively low pressure drawdown of this well demonstrate excellent productivity, and the data confirms we are connected to a large reservoir. While the partnership continues to evaluate the full impact of these results on the field's estimated gross recoverable resources, we are extremely pleased with the excellent fluid and reservoir quality we've encountered, the flow rate at Hyedua-2 and the recently announced success at the Mahogany-3 appraisal and exploration well."
The DST results at Hyedua-2 follow last week's announcement of the successful appraisal/exploration well at Mahogany-3. The Mahogany-3 well, located in approximately 4,055 feet of water on the West Cape Three Points Block successfully achieved two objectives. First, it encountered high-quality oil pay, confirming the Jubilee field's substantial potential and expanding the areal extent of the field by more than three miles to the southeast of the original Mahogany-1 discovery well. Second, the well opens new potential on the block as it encountered oil pay in the secondary exploration objective. This deeper section of the well targeted a previously untested and separate fan at a lower stratigraphic interval, potentially adding incremental resources in the play.
"These recent developments are exciting news for the nation and people of Ghana, as well as Anadarko and our partners. We look forward to working with Ghana's newly elected leadership to continue exploring for and developing these important resources," Hackett added.
Once operations at Mahogany-3 are complete, the partnership expects to begin drilling the Tweneboa-1 prospect, which has similar size and reservoir characteristics to Jubilee. Tweneboa is located on the Deepwater Tano License in approximately 3,750 feet of water. This year, the partnership also expects to continue its offshore Ghana exploration, development and appraisal program, which includes two additional high-impact exploration wells in the Cretaceous trend at the Teak and Onyina prospects.
WEST CAPE THREE POINTS BLOCK
Anadarko holds a 30.875-percent interest in the West Cape Three Points Block. Kosmos Energy is the block operator and also holds a 30.875-percent interest. Other partners include Tullow (22.896 percent), Sabre (1.854 percent), The E.O. Group, a Ghanaian oil and gas company, (3.5 percent) and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (10-percent carried interest).
DEEPWATER TANO LICENSE
Anadarko holds an 18-percent interest in the Deepwater Tano License. Tullow Ghana Limited, an affiliate of Tullow Oil plc, operates the block with a 49.95-percent interest. Other partners include Kosmos Energy (18 percent), Sabre Oil & Gas (4.05 percent) and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (10-percent carried interest).
