The FINANCIAL — Badagoni had its second presentation at the famous wine festival Vinitaly, traditionally held in Verona between 3-7 April. Badagoni made its debut in Verona last year and quite successfully too. It was nominated as the “Discovery of the Year”, which is a great achievement, especially in a traditional wine-making country.
This year, more than 4,200 companies participated in Vinitaly. The number is seriously increased compared to previous years. Alongside French wines, Badagoni presented up to 20 of its wine brands on the international stand. Khvanchkara, a wine manufactured by Badagoni for the first time this year, turned out to be the most successful. It was a welcome discovery for the participants of the exhibition.
“The biggest success of the year is undoubtedly Badagoni’s contract made with Due Tily, which will enable Badagoni to export wines of EUR 60,000 cost to Italy,” says Liza Bagrationi, Head of Badagoni PR department. Due Tily is a member of one of the largest importer groups in Italy, Chevico. Badagoni wines will be supplied to a net of Italian supermarkets under the trademark of Cantina Ronco. This net includes such stores as Metro, Craft and Aush. Even though Badagoni wines were already available at Italian restaurants, wine shops and other places (wines were exported to the European market, namely Poland, where Badagoni Europe was specially established to supply other European countries), this contract will be another very important step towards capturing the European market.
Doctor Donato Lanati went to the Badagoni stand to taste the wine on April 5, which had a great response from amateurs as well as experienced exhibition participants.
“Japanese wine author Megumi Nishida visited the Badagoni stand at the exhibition. She had encountered Badagoni about a month ago at the Tokyo exhibition and was so fascinated with its wines that she went to the Verona exhibition specially for them, and visited the stand every day,” said Liza Bagrationi.
The most important event took place in Rome, Italy on April 9, the Italian Association of Sommeliers organized a special degustation party of Badagoni wines at the hotel Cavalier Hilton, where wine symposiums, elections of sommeliers and wine tastings are traditionally organized. More than 160 wine specialists, experts, sommeliers and wine authors tasted 7 wine brands of Badagoni: white and red Kakhetian Noble, Tsinandali, Kindzmarauli, Saperavi, Khvanchkara and Alaverdi Wine cellar. The latter has not entered the Georgian market yet, it is planned to be presented in July. The tasting was attended by international arbiter Mrs. Daniela Scorbonya, who was unable to hide her excitement at the high quality and rich taste of the Georgian wine. Badagoni staff regard this fact as very important not only for Badagoni but for the popularization of Georgian wine in general as well.
It is noteworthy that Cavalier Hilton hosts elections of sommeliers on May 24. Before starting the actual election process, sommeliers will choose the best wine of the year out of 40 presented wines. The decision to present the Georgian wine – Badagoni’s Kakhetian Noble – was made at the above mentioned wine tasting ceremony. The red and white Kakhetian Noble brands were created by Dr. Lanati.
