The FINANCIAL — Attorney-General Robert McClelland today welcomed the appointment of Tom Bathurst QC as the Chief Justice of the NSW Supreme Court.
“Mr Bathurst is a highly respected lawyer with a diverse range of experience across a number of Courts and state and international jurisdictions,” Mr McClelland said.
“This experience will allow him to make an outstanding contribution to the delivery of justice in NSW.
“As the President of the Australian Bar Association, Mr Bathurst led the development of the Bar's first body of National Rules.
“He has been a strong and effective advocate in ensuring government does not unnecessarily intrude upon the fundamental rights of citizens.
“Mr Bathurst is an outstanding appointment that will be welcomed by the legal profession and the community.”
Mr Bathurst is currently the President of the NSW Bar Association. He replaces the Honourable James Spigelman as Chief Justice of the NSW Supreme Court.
