The FINANCIAL — Argentina’s monthly inflation rate rose 1% in May from April, according to a consumer price index published by the government on June 15, according to Nasdaq.
The National Institute for Statistics and the Census said that consumer prices rose 5.7% in the January to May period.
The agency said food and beverage costs led the increase in May, rising 0.8% from the previous month. It said that transportation and communication costs rose 0.21%.
Many private-sector economists say the inflation figure published by the government underestimates price pressures.
Last year, Argentina said consumer prices rose 23.9%, while many private-sector economists had said annual inflation was likely closer to 38%.
