The FINANCIAL — The EU Justice Monitoring Project has presented a report on justice expectations and needs in Armenia.
The report is based on comparative results of public perception and a professional evaluation of the quality of justice and the activity of justice institutions in Armenia, with a particular focus on the courts.
The research also looked into how justice institutions perceive qualitative aspects of justice and how they behave when fulfilling their duties and exercising the law. Justice monitoring focused on the independence, accountability, equality, fairness, accessibility and efficiency of justice services, as well as trust and confidence in the services.
The results exposed the lack of trust in the legitimacy of the country’s justice system corruption and a lack of knowledge among the population about justice processes, according to EU Neighbours East Info.
Armenian First Deputy Minister of Justice, Artur Hovhannisyan, stressed the importance of the research: “First of all, this document is, figuratively, a “home task” for the Ministry of Justice. It should be thoroughly explored to see how it can complement further reform processes”.
