The FINANCIAL — Aston University was a special guest at the annual Abbey College awards, sponsoring their International Student of the Year Award.
The school achievements awards ceremony, held at the Priory Rooms, Birmingham last week, recognise academic success and efforts across all levels and also recognise personal attributes such as team work, community spirit and determination, according to Aston University.
Jane Dunn, from Aston’s International Office was present on behalf of the University to see Ibrahim Dikko presented as winner of the International Student of the Year. Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Shafique Shah presented Ibrahim his award in front of an audience which included his family from Nigeria. He was chosen by the Head of Year for showing great maturity and dedication in settling in to his studies and achieving great results.
Jane, said of the experience: “We are delighted to support initiatives that encourage international students within the region. Seeing Ibrahim win has been made that extra special as we will be welcoming him to Aston as a Business School student in the future. We congratulate him on all his hard work and effort.”
Stephen Robinson, Principal of Abbey College, said: “On behalf of the college, we give a huge thank you to Aston University for sponsoring this Award, representing the close relationship that the College has with an institution we admire so much. A significant number of our Year 13 students successfully apply to Aston for their undergraduate studies and we look forward to continuing to develop this relationship over the coming years.”
Abbey College is part of the Abbey network of colleges around the UK providing secondary level education opportunities for approximately 150 studentsat Birmingham, attracting both international and home students. The College caters for students studying GCSEs, A levels and International Foundation programmes.
