The FINANCIAL — Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Vakhtang Makharoblishvili held a meeting with the joint delegation of the Federal Foreign Office and the Federal Ministry of the Interior.
The sides spoke about the difficulties that have arisen since Georgia was granted visa-free travel with the EU. The German delegation welcomed the awareness-raising campaign launched by the Georgian government in order to ensure that Georgian citizens are dissuaded from violating the visa-free regime.
The sides agreed to continue close co-operation to prevent violation of visa-free travel requirements in the Schengen area, according to MFA of Georgia.
“The German side once again stated that almost 100% of asylum seekers are denied asylum and will be sent back to Georgia due to the fact that Georgia is regarded as a safe country. The German side also decided that the procedures for consideration of applications of asylum seekers will be significantly reduced,” Vakhtang Makharoblishvili said.
The German delegation is paying a two-day visit to Georgia and is due to hold meetings with high ranking officials.
