The FINANCIAL — KABUL. At least 19 national army soldiers died and 23 were injured in a suicide terrorist attack in Afghanistan's Khost Province, a Taliban movement spokesman said on May 31, according to RIA Novosti.
Zabiullah Mojahed said that a suicide bomber drove a car packed with 2 tons of TNT towards an Afghan military building on Sunday evening.
He said the building was completely destroyed. Three senior Afghan military commanders were also killed in the attack.
The Afghan Defense Ministry has not yet commented on the attack.
Violence surged in the war-ravaged Central Asian state in 2009, with the Taliban staging regular attacks on provincial government officials, police and civilians and planting roadside devices as part of its fight against U.S. and NATO troops.
