The FINANCIAL — Edgar Wille, an Associate at Ashridge Business School, received a Royal Maundy Gift from the Queen at Westminster Abbey on Thursday 21 April, in recognition of his work at the Prague Anglican Church, in the Czech Republic.
Ashridge Business School says that this was the first time that the Maundy distribution of gifts had taken place on the Queen's birthday, and the entire ceremony was televised live on BBC1.
All the recipients received two purses containing special coins, including one for ÂŁ5 to commemorate The Duke of Edinburgh's 90th birthday and silver penny pieces that equal the Monarch's age.
“It was a very proud moment to receive the award, especially as it was the Queen's birthday and that it was being screened on television,” said Edgar Wille.
Currently, Edgar, who is aged 88, carries out book reviews for Virtual Ashridge, the business school’s e-learning portal. In total he has written as many as 400 reviews and carries out other research and writing work, according to school's news.
It was the second time that he has received an award from Her Majesty, having been awarded the OBE in the 1999 New Year's Honours List for his services to management development in Eastern Europe.
For 15 years, from 1992 to 2007, he directed Ashridge’s activities in Central and Eastern Europe, and ran a programme which helped some 80 Czech and Slovak companies to adapt to the market economy. He also undertook business development work in Pakistan, and has led a number of projects for the UK Department of Employment and Learning on people development, based on close contact with 150 UK companies.
Three years ago, he co-researched a report on world poverty, 'A Role for Business at the Bottom of the Pyramid'. Edgar has also written a number of books on management issues as well as two books on theological topics. He has been a frequent conference speaker, contributor to journals and a broadcaster for the Open University, from whom he also has a First Class Honours Degree and is on its panel of tutors.
