The FINANCIAL — UKERC was established by the UK Research Councils in 2004 to undertake activities aimed at improving the cohesion of the UK’s overall energy research effort and to conduct a programme of interdisciplinary research.
The project entitled “An Options Approach to UK Energy Futures” is co-directed by Professor Derek Bunn and Dr Afzal Siddiqui of University College London and will develop the Research Directors’ existing work on the theme of modelling energy investment in the context of substantial risks from policy, climate change, energy markets and technology.
The project will require a broad analysis of uncertainties affecting the sector over the next 20 years in relation to the various energy options open to companies and government support. A high level, real options framework will then be developed to help structure policy-making.
This project follows the successful ESRC award in 2008-2010 on policy risk and energy investment (£400,000) which received an outstanding impact peer review earlier this year.
